What is the process for referrals and admission?

We welcome referrals from parents, carers and local authorities. When a referral is made the school’s headteacher will determine if the school has capacity in the required year group. Detailed information about the child will be requested from the referring person or body before being shared with the school’s Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and Therapy and Support Team to determine compatibility. Arrangements may be made to visit previous schools to discuss the pupil and referrers may be invited to visit the school to ensure the placement and environment meets the pupil’s needs. This will be followed by a six week assessment and the child can also come to the school to meet with other pupils and staff groups and ask any questions.

Do you accept emergency placements?

Yes, emergency placements will be considered in line with our admissions process. Children can be admitted into the school at any time of the year.

Do you accept children who have previously been excluded?

We believe that every child has a right to quality education and guidance and care, regardless of previous or ongoing difficulties. We believe that context is key to success for our learners. We aim to be a ‘forever school’ and do not limit our admissions based on previous issues and if a child or young person meets our criteria and we have capacity, we will welcome them into our school.

Do you admit pupils who are resident at care provisions other than QEWC’s residential care homes?

Yes. QEwC does admit children and young people who are resident at other care provisions into our schools, as long as they fulfil our admission criteria. Contact us for further details.

Can I arrange a visit to your school before considering it for placement of a child?

Yes. We believe that visiting us is the best way to find out about what Bryn Tirion Hall School does. Coming to our school will allow you to meet our staff and pupils, see how we are different and learn how much that can be achieved through our commitment to providing quality education with care.
